Mock Magistrates

The Mock Magistrates competition is open to C8 and C9 and helps young people understand how the law touches every aspect of their lives, gaining an insight into how the legal justice system works.

Learners are invited to apply to be part of the team each year, and work with a member of staff to study a “court case”, a specially written criminal case.  Each learner in the team has a role: Witness, Prosecution Lawyer, Defence lawyer, Magistrate - and work as a team to build a defence and a prosecution case. They then compete against other schools in an actual court (usually a Crown Court in Chelmsford). They can progress to Regional and National levels in the competition. Honywood has been very successful in the past and has repeatedly progressed to the Regional level.
